Sara M. Bolton, M.D.
Dr. Bolton graduated with a B.A. from Williams College majoring in conflict analysis and resolution while completing her premedical coursework. She received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed her adult psychiatry residency at McLean Hospital. She has advanced training in neuropsychiatry and is an academic graduate in psychoanalysis of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.
She served as Psychiatrist-in-Charge on the PTSD unit at McLean Hospital, Belmont, MA before becoming medical director of the McLean Hospital clinical evaluation and emergency service. In that role she worked on teams to develop protocols including for the treatment of those with substance abuse disorders. She managed numerous hospital and system-wide quality improvement programs, and taught medical students and psychiatry residents. She was elected President of the McLean Staff Association for two years and was elected to the council of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society for three years. She was the Assessment Director at the Physician Health Service, a subsidiary of Massachusetts Medical Society, where she assessed doctors with problems with addiction along with other health concerns.
